Cinespia: the only time you can get excited about going to a cemetery

Recently I partook in a hipster's dream come true, Cinespia (it's really obscure, you've probably never heard of it). It's where you spend the evening with hundreds of your closest Angelenos watching a classic film at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Whip out the skinny jeans and get a 6-pack of PBR and you are good to go!

I'm eternally gratefully to my friend Chelsea for coordinating my first Cinespia experience. They were showing the Mel Brooks classic Young Frankenstein. So in true hipster fashion, we loaded up with blankets, snacks and two-buck Chuck from Trader Joe's and made our way to the graveyard. As we waited in line the search began for the ultimate hipster. Yes there were people there in robes and on bikes, but in reality the best hipsters were the people working for Cinespia.

So we made our way to the viewing area, hoarded our plot and set up for our delicious picnic. Meanwhile, they had a DJ going and a photo booth set up (maybe that's where the hipsters were?!). Although our spread was pretty awesome, other people trumped us with their small tables and citronella candles. The movie was awesome, and you do get use to the smell of cigarettes and pot - it almost adds the ambiance. Overall, like everything in life, if you are willing to roll with the punches, you can appreciate Cinespia for what it is, a chance to go out and experience the city without spending a ton of money.
